FTC Prioritizes Identity Theft Protection as Morgan Drexen Aids Its Targets
Protecting vulnerable consumers, such as children, from identity theft will be one of the main priorities of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) according to a statement released earlier this week.
Deanya Kueckhelhan, Director of FTC’s Southwest Regional Office delivered a testimony during a field hearing stating that millions of consumers are victimized by identity thieves each year. It was noted that “identity thieves can access Social Security Numbers (SSNs) from children’s records in schools, doctor’s offices, and other sources and sometimes family members who have fallen on hard economic times use the identities of their children.”
Furthermore, the testimony stated that “of children enrolled in an identify protection service, more than 10 percent had loans, property, utility and other accounts associated with their Social Security numbers.” In addition another study found that more than 140,000 instances of identity theft per year are perpetrated on children in the U.S.
California-based Morgan Drexen provides an integrated legal support platform which enables the 42 law firms supported across the county the ability to provide complex legal service with ease and cost-efficiency. Morgan Drexen supported attorneys have helped clients dealing with identity theft and its resulting debt to get that debt settled thus allowing clients to get on with their lives.
For attorney-client Barbara M. from Florida, her identity was stolen by someone she truly trusted; her roommate of many years.
“He took out 19 cards in total in my name and ran up almost $75,000 in debt. 14 cards were forgiven however 5 weren’t. The credit card companies said in one way or another I benefited from the use of those cards and that they wouldn’t forgive the debt,” explains Barbara.
The primary objective of the attorneys supported by Morgan Drexen is non-formal debt resolution and preventative bankruptcy services. Morgan Drexen Integrated Systems (MDIS) allows for automation of legal documentation and client file management, which gives busy attorneys more time to devote personalized attention their clients.
After seeing an advertisement for a Morgan Drexen supported attorney, Barbara engaged in the non-formal debt resolution program, “I just wanted somebody to help me settled that debt somehow.”
Barbara was able to settle her debt with program provided by the Morgan Drexen supported attorney and today is living debt free of engaged debt and guarding her personal identity with her life.
In recent months, Morgan Drexen has surpassed that 2,000th attorney-client to graduate the program debt free of engaged debt and is gearing up to celebrate the 2,500th client to graduate. Morgan Drexen and the supported attorney network have reduced consumer debt by over $280 million to date through the use of solutions oriented information technology systems and dedicated professionals.
“During these tough economic times, it feels good to know that over 2,000 families have returned to a debt free of engaged debt standard of living and that they got there with the help of Morgan Drexen and the attorney network,” says Jeffery Katz General Counsel for Morgan Drexen.
